Josef Nobi

Josef Nobi passed away February 25, 2013 in Loveland, Colorado surrounded by family and friends.

Joe was born November 2, 1930 in Levél, Hungary to Paul Schmidt and Teresa Nobi and was raised by his grandparents Istvan and Katherine Schmidt. Joe attended grammar school in Mosonmagyaróvár, Hungary. He married Edith Kulcsar on September 21, 1952 in Levél, Hungary. The couple fled Hungary with their three oldest children on November 21, 1956 as refugees of the Hungarian Revolution, bound for the United States to start a new life. They moved to Loveland, Colorado on January 7, 1957 and gained United States citizenship January 11, 1963.

Joe was a furniture maker with Rocky Mountain Furniture Shop in Loveland and opened his own custom furniture company, Furniture Designs, in 1978. He was a well-known craftsman and built many pieces of fine custom furniture for individuals and businesses in the area. He retired and sold the business in 1995. He was an accomplished inventor and wrote his memoir for his family. Joe enjoyed traveling, drinking wine with family and friends and always remembered to take time and enjoy his garden and flowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son Josef Nobi Jr., and a granddaughter, Tiffany Nobi. He is survived by his wife Edith, half brother Paul Schmidt and half sister Anna Mészáros of Hungary, son Laszlo Nobi of Ft. Collins, Colorado, son Steve Nobi of Boulder, Colorado, son John and his wife Pam Nobi of Stevensville, Montana, daughter Sue Schultz of Loveland, Colorado, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Joe was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Memorial mass, at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, Colorado on Friday March 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Reception to follow at Viegut Funeral Home 1616 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland Colorado at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.
